Geological Wonder - Zabriskie Point | Death Valley National Park, USA

Zabriskie Point in Death Valley National Park is one of the most iconic and dramatic viewpoints in the entire American Southwest, offering an otherworldly landscape of stark, yet stunning, beauty.

At sunrise and sunset, the landscape at Zabriskie Point becomes almost surreal. The rugged hills and eroded formations are made up of layers of sedimentary rock, which have been exposed to centuries of wind and water erosion, creating intricate, delicate ridges and deep, shadowed valleys. The colors here are what truly set Zabriskie Point apart. The landscape shifts in response to the changing light, with the hues of yellow, orange, red, and brown rippling across the formations. During the golden hour, just before sunset or after sunrise, the rocks glow with warm, rich tones, while in the harsh midday sun, they appear almost white, with sharp contrasts that emphasize the ruggedness of the terrain.

For this project my primary goal was to capture the geology, shapes and colors of Zabriskie Point during sunrise and sunset during the month of May in 2024.
